Okay Houston Aeros fans, here's a shocking note from Michael Russo: Benoit Pouliot has been benched because of crappy play. The Wild think that he has been slacking off, and not giving it a full effort.
They also think he's too talented to play like this.
Guess what? Us Aeros fans have thought that for years. How many of you Aeros fans out there remember Benoit -- or Princess as one of my readers referred to him -- getting open for a breakaway, then slowing down and wiffing on a shot? Or his stellar non-play on the defensive end? Or the whining about how he was being wasted in Houston because Kevin Constantine didn't know how to use him and because there wasn't good talent around him, but that once he made the NHL he would become a great player?
Now, in my opinion, scratching Pouliot from a game probably won't get through to him -- I really don't know if anything can get through to him at this point. But if I were the coach, I'd have Cal Clutterbuck go after him time and time again in practice until he started hustling. And if getting hit by Clutterbuck doesn't make a guy want to hustle, then there's just no hope for the guy.
